The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives Director Venerable Geshe Lhakdor La. ..Geshe Lhakdor is a highly respected Buddhist scholar and is the current Director of Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA). He earned his Geshe degree from Drepung Loseling Monastic University and was a religious assistant and translator at the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for 16 years before assuming his current responsibity as Director of LTWA. Geshe Lhakdor holds Masters in English (Punjab University) and Philosophy (University of Delhi) and is Honorary Professor of University of Delhi's Department of Psychology and University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada...In the early years of exile, refugees escaping to India carried hundreds of books out of Tibet. On the arduous journey across the Himalayas, these precious texts were often guarded above all else. Once safe in India, many of these sacred books were presented as gifts to the Dalai Lama. In order to preserve them, His Holiness conceived of and founded the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.The Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA) is an autonomous body under direct supervision of H.H. the Dalai Lama. LTWA is recognized by Himachal Pradesh University as a Centre for Tibetan Studies in 1991 and was accorded status of National Library, Archives and Museum by the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile in 1996.
